  1. How Do I Migrate an Azure Database? Migrating databases to Azure can be done using traditional backup and restore approaches or using tools that specialize in online and offline migrations. Azure Data Migration Service (DMS) is a comprehensive solution that can be used to move databases from local/cloud sources to Azure securely and promptly. It offers an intuitive interface and features that make the migration process easier and faster. You can also migrate a database by moving and relocating the disk hosting the database to Azure. Another common use case for Data Migration to Azure is data backup and archiving. Azure Migrate Lift and shift are the easiest, risk-free option for moving your applications and data to the cloud. This makes it the best migration strategy for customers starting their journey to the cloud. The most helpful Azure migration resource for lift-and-shift migrations is Azure Migrate. What is Azure Migrate? Azure Migrate is an integration hub for assessing and migrating workloads from on-premises and other cloud environments to Azure. It consists of a set of services that customers can use according to their use cases. Two main services are presented by Azure Migrate for migrating servers: Azure Migrate Discovery & Assessment and Azure Migrate: Server Migration. Azure migration can be used for migrating Windows, Linux, and SQL servers hosted by on-premises physical servers, other clouds, or virtualization platforms to Azure. Azure Migrate has a different feature for migrating on-premises web applications to the Azure App Service. Azure Data Migration Services Azure offers multiple PaaS and IaaS options for hosting databases. The Azure Data Migration Assistant (DMA) and Azure Database Migration Service (DMS) assist in this process by assessing existing databases, recommending fixes where necessary, and facilitating migration. Before you move your database to Azure Data Services, you should perform the fix as a prerequisite for all subsequent Azure migration steps. What Is Azure Database Migration Service (DMS)? SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA) can be used by customers using various database platforms to migrate data to SQL Server or Azure Synapse Analytics. Supported source platforms include MySQL, Oracle, Microsoft Access, and DB2 databases

  2. SSMA supports SQL Server IaaS installations of versions from 2012 and later versions up to SQL Server 2019 (Windows and Linux) or Azure SQL Database/Managed Instance. Azure Synapse Analytics is only supported with SSMA tools for Oracle target environments. Azure Synapse Pathway Converting existing SQL code to the target platform is often one of the main obstacles in data warehouse modernization. Databases can contain thousands of lines of code written over many years, requiring considerable time and money to translate. Azure Synapse Pathway helps address this challenge through automatic transcoding that enables you to migrate your existing data warehouse to Azure Synapse Analytics. Data definition language (DDL) and data manipulation language (DML) statements are automatically translated into T-SQL compatible languages by Azure Synapse Pathway and are compatible with Azure Synapse SQL as a migration target. Azure Backup and Site Recovery Azure Cloud Backup is a cloud-based backup solution that can be used to back up data from various sources such as on-premises servers, Azure VMs, managed disks, and Azure file shares. You can utilize the service for data migration objectives by restoring backup data to a target environment in Azure. Azure Backup offers application consistency for widely used business applications like SQL Server, Exchange, and SharePoint. This helps ensure that enterprise applications are backed up accurately and securely. This consistency makes it easy to use the restored data to provide a working environment without additional work. Azure Site Recovery is a cloud-based DR solution that can be used to replicate data from on-premises or other cloud environments to Azure. Also know about Office 365 tenant to tenant migration.
