  3. “We are facing adversaries who possess significant military capabilities and aspire to be the equal of the United States. These nation states are improving their warfighting capabilities at a rapid pace, shrinking our competitive advantage, and redefining international norms to further their long-term goals. It is imperative we outpace them.” VADM Thomas J. Moore Commander, Naval Sea Systems Command

  4. NSRP Mission • Manage and focus national shipbuilding and ship repair research & development funding on technologies and processes that will: • Reduce the total ownership cost of ships for the U.S. Navy, other national security customers and the commercial sector • Develop and leverage best commercial and naval practices to improve the efficiency of the U.S. shipbuilding and ship repair industry • Provide a collaborative framework to improve shipbuilding-related technical and business processes

  5. Vision for the Future • Accelerate our support for • Large Surface Combatant • Small Surface Combatant • Unmanned Surface Combatant • Common Hull Auxiliary Multi-Mission Platform • Polar Icebreaker • Ship maintenance and repair • Improve • Performance to expenditure benchmarks • NSRP’s reputation • Maintain • Support for current shipbuilding and ship repair programs • NSRP’s high implementation rate

  7. Planning for Success • What industry need will your project meet? • Who can help you understand the scope of the problem? • Who can help you develop a solution? • What will project success look like? • What will be necessary to implement the solution? • Who will need to approve implementation? What will they ask for? • Can you leverage a past or current project? • How does your project fit into the shipbuilding plan? • Will another project be necessary? “Start with the end in mind.” – Steven Covey
