  5. The strategic partners -SeeBAGmbH SeeBA Energiesysteme GmbH • The planning, erection and operation of wind parks. • The construction, design and type approval of lattice towers with hub heights greater than 100 m for many commercially available wind turbines. Design engineers work in close collaboration with leading wind turbine manufacturers to produce tower concepts for state-of-the-art wind turbines. SeeBA Energiesysteme GmbH, founded in 1997, is aplanning and development company in two sectors of the wind power market: Photo: Vestas V66 on SeeBA 117 m lattice tower Please view details @ www.seeba-online.de W2E Status. 6. The strategic partners - Fuhrländer AG • TechnologyTransfer Support • Assembly & Service Training • Service Concept • Quality Assurance Fuhrländer and W2E - joinedworld widecustomer support Fuhrländer AG is a Germany based company manufacturing up-to-date series wind turbines from 30 to 2500 kW. Fuhrländer adds the following pillars to W2E’s efforts to license the W9x family of wind turbines: Please view details @ www.fuhrlaender.de W2E Status. January 2007

  7. W9x - The Design Principle • Condition Monitoring: • Blades, Rotor bearing, Gearbox, Generator, Tower • W2E used field-proven, off-the-shelf components, each of which is provided by at least two leading wind industry suppliers. • W2E created well-defined mechanical and electrical system interfaces (Plug & Play) to expertly integrate all components. • W2E added a standard on-board Condition Monitoring System that monitors the state of each drivetrain component. These elements of design culminate in the most reliable wind turbine on the market. Photo: W90 at test site south of Berlin W2E Status. January 2007

  8. W9x - Nacelle Transformer: part of nacelle, decreasing line losses, eliminating a park component Moment bearing: absorbing all bending moments and leaving the gearbox with torsional moment only Maintenance & Repair tracks: running wind farm contained winch unit • - Condition Monitoring: • Rotor bearing, Gearbox, Generator, Blades*, Tower* Rotor coupling: openings allowing for save entry into hub without clim- bing over hub or into spinner Gearbox support & Joint to rotor coupling: fully elastomer bedded - accustically decoupling the gearbox Inner location of slewing ring: containing oil and grease within tower, preventing bending moments in tower interface Lower nacelle gateway: allowing for disassembly and exchange of all drive train components * CMS offered for SeeBA towers and LM blades W2E Status. January 2007

  9. W9x - Drivetrain (4) Rotor bearing: used for decades in tunnel driving machines, absorbes all loads but the torque (1) Gearbox: mounted on entire circumference (no “sitting duck” motion) Moment bearing (absorbing all bending moments and leaving the gearbox with torsional moment only) • Condition Monitoring: • Blades, Rotor bearing, Gearbox, Generator, Tower Maintenance & repair tracks (running wind farm contained winch unit) Transformer - part of nacelle (decreasing line losses, eliminating a park design component) (2) Elastomer elements by ESM (individually exchangeable), increasing drivetrain damping 2-fold, and thus taking out torque peaks Rotor coupling (openings allowing for save entry into hub without climbing over hub/ into spinner) Lower nacelle gateway (allowing for disassembly and exchange of all drive train components) Gearbox support & joint to Rotor coupling (fully elastomer bedded - accustically decoupling the gearbox) Inner location of slewing ring (containing oil and grease within tower, preventing bending moments in tower interface) (3) Simple cast iron (more damping) linkage between gearbox and rotor bearing, stiffer (less drivetrain oscillations, e.g. at grid failure) but lighter than a conventional shaft (5) Warm nacelle air (and personell) can enter the hub, creating a climatized chamber – the electric pitch system likes it W2E Status. January 2007

  10. W9x - Hub • Novel approach to safety system - simple but “smarter”: hard-wired, conditional logic increases system safety and decreases operational loads • Plug & Play: all connections in hub & nacelle by plugs only, single exception: power cables Distribution Box (Lightning protection system, Communication system) Electrical Pitch Drive unit (controlled by SPS via Pitch Logic Unit: a simple software for maximum control but minimum confusion) Blade Position Encoder (unit with zero gear clearance, control signal pitch position sampled closest to blade, commission & repair: return to zero position per button push) Cabinets, housing: Litium-Ion batteries (or Capacitors) & Pitch Logic Unit (Litium-Ion batteries: simpler control, leight weight, increased life time; PLU: avoiding electro-mechanical components, such as relais) W2E Status. January 2007

  11. W9x - Full Replacement Capability • The wind-farm or service-station contained winch system enables the service team to replace all main components without external crane: • Generator • Gearbox • Rotor bearing • Rotor blades • Hub Drawing: The nacelle gateway is opened up. The generator is about to be removed, the gearbox could be next. The opened nacelle wings serve as extended service platform. W2E Status. January 2007

  12. W9x & Competition - Tower Heights The extra tall W9x towers are designed to capture maximum energy at a given site: 85 / 100 m tubular tower, 117 / 141/ 160 m lattice tower. SeeBA GmbH specializes in, and has years of experience in the design and manufaturing of tall lattice towers. Source: Wind Turbine Market 2005 Photo: W90 on 160 m lattice tower W2E Status. 13. The W9x Family – Overview The W90 (STANDARD) is the first and concluded phase in the development of the W9x wind turbine family. In order to conclude phase 2, the Germanischer Lloyd Statement of Compliance for the W100 (LOW WIND) is scheduled for March 2007. The complete family allows for a modular selection of the appropriate wind turbine for the client’s wind farm site, on one identical platform. W2E Status. January 2007

  14. The Prototype – Work shop system test & commissioning concluded: April, 2005 The Plug & Play concept and the neatly defined interfaces are evident – not only in the hub. The Mainframe: sound support for the rotor bearing and transfering the rotor loads straight into the tower; the gearbox is “nestled” load-free within. Photos: Fuhrländer AG works, Waiganshain, Germany The Hub: The closed cast design provides extra stiffness, the blade bearings like it. W2E Status. January 2007

  15. The Prototype – Turbine erection on test site concluded: September, 2006 The nacelle is in place on a 160m lattice tower. That is World record! This W90 will yield 30% more energy than on a 100m tower. Add another 20% with the 100m-rotor option, W100! Photos: Test site near Laasow, Germany W2E Status. January 2007

  16. The Prototype – Turbine erection on test site concluded: September, 2006 Plug & Play at work at 160m, lifting in the gearbox subsystem and connecting it: 2 hours. Have your suppliers deliver the main components on site and save on logistics! Photos: Test site near Laasow, Germany W2E Status. January 2007

  17. The Prototype – Turbine commissioning concluded: October, 2006 The assembly was completed before schedule without complications on Sept. 14th. After commisioning the subsystems one by one, the W90 did its first run in semi-automatic mode on Oct. 10th. Photos: Test site near Laasow, Germany W2E Status. January 2007

  18. The Prototype – Turbine in full operation: November, 2006 After optimizing the various controller- and supervisory control functions, the W90 began operating in fully-automatic mode on Nov. 08th. Despite the fact that this W90 continues to be halted for various tests, it logged the first one million kWh on Jan. 3rd. WP4000 online-display: the 1 mio. kWh mark was surpassed on Jan. 03rd Photo: Test site near Laasow, Germany W2E Status. January 2007
