  1. Wingshooting And Deer Hunting Remain A Passion For Many People the world over, also in the American Southeast, love hunting and wingshooting, and for many it is much more than a casual pastime – for millions it is a passion, something they often look forward to for many weeks and months before they set out on a trip in the bush or visit that lodge where quail, pheasant, dove or wild turkey are found in abundance. Of course wingshooting and deer hunting represent different sides of the same coin, which is hunting and shooting, but they are always enjoyed for the thrill of the hunt or the shoot – and for the success in terms of what the trophy or prey offers the hunter or shooter. Hunters and wingshooters want to know that they leave with a quality buck or doe, or a healthy bunch of birds. No hunter or shooter wants to pay for sub- standard prey. This means the hunter and shooter will always be on the lookout for the best destination to visit in order to be given the best chance at success, and success is measured, often, in terms of the quality of the deer you have shot, or the quality and quantity of the birds you take home. This means one looks around for the best destinations, those that are known to offer great herds for the hunt, or a choice of birds for the wingshooting enthusiast. Finding the best facility to visit is hardly a problem for hunters and wingshooters these days as any region’s local press carries advertisements, as does the internet. Good facilities offer their services and opportunities for hunters and wingshooters to avail themselves of on their own websites. But, that alone does not guarantee success for anybody. The hunter and wingshooter want to know they have found the ideal destination for their trip, a destination with quality deer and birds, a destination they would like to return to often. The facilities that offer quality are successful and they can be sure of multiple visits from certain hunters and shooters, while those that do not offer good opportunities, buck and doe’s and birds in good condition, will quickly fall by the wayside and be followed by a bad reputation. Therefore good wingshooting and deer hunting lodges make sure they do their utmost to offer their visitors quality and choice. This can only be achieved at a lodge where animals have good water and food available to them, shelter from the elements and the opportunity to stay in the region. A lodge or tract of land with no plan in place to promote superior quality buck or birds will quickly become unpopular with the hunting public. This means that, to be successful, the lodge or landowner must ensure they have a program in place that supports quality animals. This is a pre-requisite for successful hunting, and for the good name of the establishment to be cemented. These days good lodges and landowners make sure they employ the services of experienced farm and lodge managers, professionals with the knowledge and experience to manage and to promote efforts to attract the attention of hunters and wingshooters. In the Southeast, for example in states such as Alabama,

  2. Georgia, Mississippi, Virginia and others good wildlife conservation services are available to assist lodge- and landowners with the appropriate advice as to how they should manage their land to raise the best herds and birds. Some of them offer additional services such as administering hunting clubs that the lodge- and landowner may benefit from, and they will help to ensure all processes are followed to offer visitors a good experience – and for the lodge owner and landowner that offers hunting leases, the opportunity to maximize the value of their facility or land, also financially.
