  1. Pheasant Hunting – A Favored Discipline For Many So many wing shooters are looking for the best pheasant hunting in the US when the season starts, which is normally from September until late November, with some exceptions. Many, of course, have their favourite destinations that they may be visiting year after year, but for some, there is always a challenge in finding a new destination known for the quality and abundance of pheasant and other birds that they may want to try their hand at. And of course, those new to this discipline will always be interested to know where they should visit to make the best memories. Pheasant hunting season can be about so many things. Think of new friendships which are forged or time spent with your spouse and teenager, tomorrow’s hunter and shooter, the landscape and ranch or lodge that you visit. It all combines to make for some truly memorable times. This, like all of the other wing-shooting disciplines, requires dedication, skills, patience and a willingness to have yourself challenged. Of course, the shooter should always make sure they have all of the information before they set out before they book their trip to their favourite ranch or lodge, and that they understand the nature of the birds they will be shooting at. Pheasants, just like chukar and some other species such as dove and quail, belong to the family of upland birds that originated in Asia but that, with time, were introduced to other parts of the world so that today it is found in good concentrations in states such as, say, Idaho and elsewhere. The pheasant’s typical habitat will always be near good water sources and grasslands, open woodlands and farmland with access to, for example, seeds and insects that make up their diet. They typically prefer good ground cover where they keep and hide from predators. This is important for the wing-shooter to know so that they choose a destination or patch where these birds are more likely to be than in, say, open areas. Therefore it is also good to know that the ranch or lodge you visit for the best pheasant hunting trip in Idaho and other US states, is known, typically, for its abundant flocks of pheasant or whatever other birds you may favor. When choosing the ranch or lodge you are going to visit for a few days, find out what style of pheasant shooting they offer, as there is more than one possibility, and you may favour the one over the others. For example, you getupland hunting walkup hunting, and driven hunting, or tower hunting. In the first case, you walk in the direction where the birds will fly up and aim. This type of shooting is normally done with the aid of a hunting dog that helps to flush out the birds from their cover, and then fetch your prey once you have downed it. In the second instance, i.e.the driven hunting discipline, beaters or other hunters flush out the birds from their cover for the shooter to aim where they are waiting in a designated area. Tower hunting is not much different from driven hunting – it means shooting at birds in flight from a platform raised high enough for this purpose.

  2. Wing shooters have choices these days, not only in terms of which birds to pursue but also in terms of which ranches or lodges to visit. It may depend on the distance you are willing to travel the state that you favor, or what your budget allows. There is a choice for all, and these days leading lodges and ranches are known to offer excellent bird populations, great facilities and experiences, the memories of whichshooters can cherish for long afterwards.
