Adam Noah Abraham Moses David Jesus
You are here:Exodus 15:1-21
Israel’s future Restoration/New Exodus from Exile brings about the restoration of all mankind and all creation under the leadership of a New David/Moses.
He spends time in EgyptAnd he rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed to Egypt and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
He reconstitutes the 12 tribes of IsraelAnd when day came, he called his disciples and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles:
Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, in the new world,fn when the Son of Man will sit on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
He gives water in the wilderness
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. When they heard these words, some of the people said, This really is the Prophet.
John 7:38-40 (cf. Paul “the rock that followed..)
He gives manna from heaven (he is the manna)
I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.
He is lifted up like the bronze serpent to
save all who look to him
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
He succeeds in the wilderness where Israel failed
Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry.
He is the True Tabernacle where God’s presence dwells among his people
And the Word became flesh and dwelt (tabernacled) among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
He is the ultimate Passover Lamb
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
