  2. INTRODUCTION: • I received my Bachelors degree from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. I finished my Masters degree at Piedmont College summer of 2010. I am currently pursuing my Educational Specialist Program in Teacher Leadership through Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee. • This is my 6th year of teaching. I have taught grades K, 2, & 4. • This is truly a very rewarding and fulfilling job for me because of YOUR children!! • I believe you and I are a team in ensuring your child is engaged and excited about their learning!

  3. JAGUARS“Class Behavior Plan” • -“Love and Logic” Respect and Logical Consequences. Teach kids to think for themselves, take responsibility and become problem solvers. • Passport- school-wide behavior plan • Rewards • -Paw prints • -Fun Friday • -“Caught you Being Good” Stickers • Consequences • -Wisdom walks, signed passports, “Think About It” Sheet and phone calls home

  4. Passports • School wide discipline plan • Orange passports will go home on Fridays for parents to initial unless there is a behavior issue that needs to be addressed that day • Specials teachers and lunch monitors may also write in your child’s passport if there is an issue

Our Daily Schedule • 8:20-8:30: Jaguar News/ Attendance/ Lunch count • 8:30-9:15: Math • 9:15-11:00: ELA/ Writing • 11:00-11:40: Specials • 11:45-12:05: Recess • 12:09-12:39: Lunch • 12:50-1:35: Response to Intervention • 1:35-2:15: Saxon Phonics/ Spelling/ Vocabulary Work • 2:15-2:50: Science/ Social Studies • 2:50-3:00: Pack-up • 3:00: Dismissal

  8. Homework & Parent Communication • Jaguar Folders - Go home everyday and return everyday - Homework turned in every morning - Notes and Lunch Money Parent Communication - Email - Passport - Weekly Newsletter – Check website and email - Voice Mail x361057 -Student Led fall conferences -Meetings

Weekly Hwk Assignments: • Monday: Reading Comprehension Packet • Tuesday: Vocabulary/Math worksheet • Wednesday: Jumpstart • Thursday: Study for weekly spelling test, vocab. test, and timed math fluency • Friday: No Hwk!!! • -NOTE: Homework can always change weekly due to the instruction students need with each standard.

Weekly Spelling • Every Monday students will receive a new spelling list to be glued in their agenda. • Next, they are to study their spelling words at home daily in order for them to master the list. • There will be word work done in class throughout the week for spelling practice. • Spelling tests will be given every Friday, you should have received a letter regarding this from me in your child’s Jaguar Folder. • Any questions feel free to ask!

Reading • Small Group Reading - homogeneous by level - focuses on specific skills and reading instruction -literature circles -thematic units Large Group Reading - heterogeneous - enables students to interact and learn about reading from each other - stories aligned with Common Core, both fiction & non-fiction

Common Core ELA • Common Core has been a nationally adopted curriculum program that is being implemented for the first time in the 2012-2013 school year. • All lessons will be taught along a common thread that should ring true to students as they transition into a new school year. • Lessons will integrate science, math & social studies curriculum along with fine tuning comprehension, fluency, & enriching vocabulary. • Students will continue decoding skills and develop their ability to become a writer that shows their voice and style.

Technology • B.Y.O.T. • (Bring your own technology) • All 2nd -5th grade classes will be participating this year • Technology can include DS, itouch, laptops, ipods..etc. • Technology will be used for educational purposes • Edmodo-Social network safe for schools for blogging educational information and receiving assignments • ANGEL Learning • Interactive Games • Web quests (research) • Assessments • Discussion Boards

Writer’s Workshop(Writing Process & Grammar) • Writer’s Workshop incorporates common core grammar skills into learning the writing process • 6+1 Traits of Writing (Ideas, Conventions, Organization, Word Choice, Voice and Sentence Fluency) • Mini-Lessons & Writing Blocks - mini-lesson / modeling - writing session & teacher conferencing Writing Focuses: Narrative, Expository, Persuasive, Response to Literature: text to self, text to text, text to world

Math Frameworks Standards-based approach -The framework emphasizes key standards found in the common core -3-6 week Units-Unit Based, standard will not be assessed every quarter -Standards more in depth and we will study for a longer period of time - Real World Applications & Problem Solving - Math Centers -Math Games -Math Practice Books -That Quiz/ANGEL assessments -3-Minute Fact Practice

  19. Science Lab • Brand new science lab at JCE • Parent volunteers will help conduct experiments and investigations, this will enable us to teach more hands on lessons • Room moms will be contacting parents soon 

  20. Social Studies Social Studies Themes • Georgia’s regions and landforms • Historical figures in Georgia history • Georgia’s Native Americans • Concept of Government • Democracy • Flag Etiquette • Colonial Georgia • Georgia civil rights and human rights • Economics

Numerical Grades for Academics 1 = Limited or minimal progress toward achievement of the standard 2 = Sometimes demonstrates achievement in the standard 3 = Consistently demonstrates Achievement in the standard 4= Mastery of Achievement in the standard * This is new to Forsyth County Key to Initiative and Work Standards Exemplary (E) = Student maximizes opportunities in all areas of work habits and behavior. Successful (S) = This is the standard level. Student exhibits progress and satisfaction in responsibility, participation, assignment completion and interpersonal skills. Does Not Meet (D) = Student does not display behaviors that lead to successful learning, requires frequent redirection Report CardAssesses Forsyth County Standards and Benchmarks
