But first, let us explore a bit deeper the need for meaning and how we can relate to it in the midst of 21st century. I think we can all agree that technology is playing a huge role in how we live nowadays. The Internet has transformed the way we socialize, the way we learn and the way we work. Thanks to the technological advancements over the last centuries, we do not have to forage for food all day long and worry about survival.

  2. I think we can all agree that technology is playing a huge role in how we live nowadays. The Internet has transformed theway we socialize, thewaywe learn and thewaywe work.Thankstothetechnologicaladvancementsoverthe lastcenturies,we donothaveto forage for food all day long and worry aboutsurvival. This puts things in perspective in a completely new way. Even our brains are built on layers – and the most primal one, responsible for keeping us alive and well, is (ironically?) the smallest part of thewhole brain. The largest and newest part of our brain, the neocortex, is responsible for facilitating a deeper, richer and more complex version of reality. It is not enough for us to be well fed, have a shelter, a social circle and feel that we are safe. We need challenges to solve, problemstoovercomeandmeaningtogivetoourexperiences. “Man’s Searchfor Meaning” Actually this is exactly what Viktor Frankl was saying in his groundbreaking book, “Man’s Search for Meaning”. Viktor E. Frankl was a psychiatrist who was sent to the Jewish concentration camps during World War 2. The horrors he went through and the experiences he overcame empowered him to develop a deep and holistic overview of the human psyche, as well as its need for meaning and contribution. Now, in the 21st century, we are more hungry for meaning than ever before. We have everything covered – food, shelter, entertainment and everything in between. But there is still something great missing. The ingredient that is missing is meaning – and this is where you have to take responsibility for yourself and find yourown. Our brains are actually meaning manufacturing factories. Our minds are quick to interpret all the situations we are going through and put them in a great context which makes sense and tells some sort of story which aligns who we are, what we do and why we do it. Meaning is rarely found in selfish acts. Meaning is usually found in experiences shared with other people. Most people report that having a child is the most meaningful experience in their lives. Others state that their job is their primary source of meaning – throughtheimpacttheyaremakingtheyfeelthattheyareimportant, valuableandthattheyhaveapurposeonthisplanet. That is why meaning can be found most often in doing community work – volunteering, helping people who have been through extreme situations or who are transitioning through a more challenging phase in their life. Discovering your gifts and sharing them with the world is one of the most satisfying, rewarding and enlightening experiences one can have – especially in the instant gratification society we are living incurrently. 3. Yes, it takes some work to develop valuable skills. Yes, it takes e"ort and time to invest your energy in goals which are not necessarily for your own best interests. However, this is where the paradox shows itself. Sooner or later you realize that what you are doing for others, you are doing for yourself as well. What you give away comes back to you multiplied many times. In a way, that is how the Universe works – but in a very pragmatic and realway. SOLS is one of the top NGOs in Malaysia which can facilitate one of the most transformational life experiences you can have. You can have a positive, impressive impact where it is needed the most. Underserved people, mentally challenged patients, impoverished societies and many other vulnerable social groups are in much need of yourexpertise. If you are also looking for shaping the future of humanity in a positive way, look no further than SOLS’ project. From empowering young students with technology for better learning to making the switch to green fuels and a more sustainable environment, SOLS aims to recreate a more enlightened society we can all live in more happilyand content. The question is – will you be part of it? Will you answer the call to transform your life and others’ as well? If so, apply today to be part of SOLS’ volunteering programs. It might just be thebest decision of your life. PDFmyURL converts any url topdf!
