  4. Tools …. First Days Organization • Class Syllabus • Student info - index card or form.. • Website - www.staff.fcps.net/lwiggins/ • BAND STUFF… (FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL) • Schedule of Events YEAR LONG

  5. EJ HayesBand Room Expectations • Keep your eyes on the Voice! • Treat each teacher & student in the room with respect. • Be a responsible member of the EJ Hayes Band. • Come to class prepared. (instrument, music, pencil, attitude) • Be seated approximately 4 minutes after the beginning of class. • Practice so you make a positive contribution to the group. • Take care of equipment & help maintain a neat band room. • Be 100% Reliable. • Attend all rehearsals, performances, and activities. • Work independently, in small groups, and in large groups. • Follow regulations during trips and special activities

  6. Grades • Materials Check • Book, Pencil, Music Folder • Live Test Score Sheet and Rubric • Make them short - immediate feedback • Written work.. • Use Test Sheet • Video Tape

  7. More Tools for Grading…. • Exit Slips (POST ITS) • Rhythm, Key Signature, Terms & Definitions • Composition Books • Kjos Theory Books • Elements of Music for Performance Selections • Can be used as a ORQ Writing organizer • Practice Journals

PRACTICE TIME!!! • 4 PRACTICE JOURNALS (20 min each) PER WEEK • JOURNALS ARE DUE ON FRIDAY! • FAILURE TO TURN IN AT LEAST 1 WILL RESULT IN MARKS. • JOURNALS MUST BE COMPLETED & Have a PARENT SIGNATURE • 1 Extra Credit Journal per Week • JOURNALS ARE AVAILABLE ON THE WEBSITE • You have 1 week to turn in missing journals! • Options: • AM Practice - 8:35 to 8:50 (Ms. Wiggins will sign)

  10. Discipline • Have a plan and stick to it! • Hayes way… Marks • Be fair and consistent • Keep them busy and engaged • Cut down your talking! • Start with music - not talking

  12. Miscellaneous stuff that works! • Cut off game.. • Don’t Raise your hand.. • Highlighters - different colors for different things • When working with small groups: • Silent Practice, Tizzle, # measures • Tell the other kids to do something! • Make it quick!
