  3. The Life of Lewis Carroll • Born in 1832 • Excelled in the mathematics • Made the family magazine at a young age • Published Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland while teaching at Oxford school in 1865 • Often gave books to little girls in the hospital to cheer them up

  4. More About Carroll’s Life • The name Lewis Carroll came from the original names Lutwidge and Charles • Therefore, his real name isn’t Lewis Carroll, it is Charles Lutwidge Dodgson or Mr. Dodgson

Even More About Carroll’s Life • Carroll spent the later years of his life living with his sisters in the town of Guilford, Southern England • He would be considered a child pornographer in this day and age due to his interest in little girls, cameras and photography • Lewis Carroll died in Guildford on January 14, 1898. He was buried in The Mount Cemetery, Guildford

  6. Awards and Honors • Lewis Carroll has a plaque outside his home in Guilford, England • Plaque called “The Chestnuts” was made by local children who incorporated his characters • The Guilford Museum has a gallery in his name
