    19. Why is it important to do well on the CAHSEE?

    20. Students cannot graduate from high school unless they pass the exam. Schools and districts are judged according to the number of students who score PROFICIENT on the exam, not merely “pass” the test.

    21. CAHSEE PREP Unit 1 You will form teams of 4 people 2. Come up with a name for your team 3. Create a poster board score sheet 4. This will be your team until the test on March 8 and 9 2011 Each day you will compete as a team for points

    22. How it works On the white board, one person will write down the answer On a piece of binder paper-write everyone’s name and the team team. One person will record your answers At the end of the day, we will add up points and keep a running total until the test

    23. How it works continued.. 1. Each student will have a packet of released test questions 2. You will be given between 5 and 7 minutes to read a selection and make sure that everyone knows what its about 3. I will project the question on the screen 4. As a group you will decide on the correct answer

    24. So what do I get out of this? Test Preparation Fun times Extra credit opportunities Prizes include Homework pass Skip a test Free time Pizza party with Ms. P- grand prize

    25. Focus on Standards Book In addition to the sample test questions, we will also be working out of the Holt book called Focus on Standards. We will either work on it in class or you will finish it for homework. The selections will further help you become ready to pass the test. Bring the book every day!!!

    26. What others have said about the Cahsee prep unit- friends who have other teachers will be jealous of you!!

    27. Past Students As a result of this unit, I felt calmed and completely prepared for the exam. The Cahsee prep games made me feel relaxed and that I was learning at the same time. If you pick the right people for your teams, you stand a better chance Seeing old test questions helped me become comfortable with what was going to be on the test.

    28. Results A student was able to raise his score from 270 to 380 A student was able to go from 290 to 410 Last year 88% of all 10th graders passed the test on the first try My students had a 95% pass rate
