  1. SUPPOSED CONTRADICTIONS IN THE BIBLE “’But the word of the Lord endures forever.’ And this is the word which was preached to you” (I Peter 1:25).

  2. Confidence In The Book • The unity of the book leads to trust. • The harmony of thought leads to trust. • The almost flawless transmission of the text leads to trust (Matt. 27:9). • Purity of ethics leads to trust • A “Holy Book” since it was written.

  3. Contradictions • Sometimes more perceived than real. • Why do some support abortion and oppose capital punishment? • Those people are “strange”. • Liberals and conservatives will never see “eye to eye”. • The “liberal” critics see contradictions where they do not exist. • There is no God, so there can’t be any inspiration.

  4. The Nature of God • Gen. 1:31 – “And God saw everything that he had made and behold it was very good.” vs. Gen. 6:6 – “And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. • 2 Chron 7:12-16 – Solomon built a temple and God inhabited it. Vs. Acts 17:24 – “Since He is the Most High, and dwells not in temples made with hands.”

  5. Nature of God • “The Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy” (James 5:11). Vs. “I will not pity, nor spare nor have mercy but destroy” (Jer. 13:14). • “I will laugh at your calamity: I will mock when your fear comes” (Prov. 1:26) vs. “For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dies” (Ezek. 18:32

  6. Inspiration of Scripture • “All scripture is given by inspiration of God…” (2 Tim. 3:16). Vs. “But I speak this by permission and not of commandment…but to the rest speak I, not the Lord” (I Cor. 7:6-12).

  7. Nature of Man • “There is no man that sins not” (I Kings 8:46) vs. “Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God” (Gen. 6:9). • “For vain man would be wise, though man be born like a wild donkey’s colt” (Job. 11:12; Psa. 58:3) vs. “Except you be converted and become as little children you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 18:3

  8. Questions • Are worldly goods a blessing or curse? • Mark. 10:30; Psa. 112:2-3 vs. Matt. 6:19ff • Can the saved ever be lost? John 10:28; vs. Rom. 14:15; I Cor. 8:11

  9. Contradictions??? • “Seeming” contradictions. • Answers are readily available. • The question is, are we looking for truth, or excuses? • Trust your Bible. It deserves it.
