  1. My Cooperative Education Experience By: XXXXXXX

  2. Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital • 700 PriestmanStreet • 13 weeks spent in 3E • 1 week spent in 4SE • 1 week spent in 3NW

  3. My intentions I chose to go through the coop program because I was undecided on whether I should be a social worker or a nurse. I was not allowed to go around with a social worker because it is to confidential between each patient they have so I went to the DERCH to shadow nurses. My intentions were to make a decision on which career path would be the best for me.

  4. Job Description • While shadowing with a Registered Nurse I seen them: • Give out medication • Talk with doctors • Computer work • Help the LPN when they have all of their work done • While shadowing with a licensed practical nurse I seen them: • Vitals • Help with feedings • Blood sugars • Sponge baths • Bathroom assistants • Changing the beds

  5. Tasks & Duties • Feed patients • Change and make beds • Reposition patients • Help patients to the bathroom • Run and get things for RN’s and LPN’s • Check up on patients

  6. Final Decision In the end I was hoping to have made my decision between a nurse and social worker but I am still puzzled. Next year I plan on going to St. Thomas University this way I am on the right path if I decide to go with social work. If I decide to go with nursing then I can transfer my credits over to UNB. Either way I will hopefully be on the right path for my future.
