  1. CBI StoryboardPresentation Three Branches of the US government

  2. Introduction • My project will use computer based program to teach my target population about the 3 branches of the US government. It will introduce them to the Presidency, House of Representatives, Congress and Supreme Court.

  3. Storyboard solve the problem in my needs assessment • Planning— interviewed learners. • Collected data—by using a scale. • Final Report—Internet based system is the best approach for learners. Questioning will help students learn the data.

  4. How would program address the learner & contextual needs? • Orienting context– is what utility does the learner have? The learner wants to more about how government works. • Instructional context would be on a format which they can use. They both have computers with Internet access. • transfer context will be asking them questions after they just learned the material.

  5. Present information effectively to improve understanding • Pictures will help bring out bring out prior knowledge • Will start with introduction. • Will have topics followed by details.

  6. Program facilitate understanding & higher-order outcomes • Have large text. • Important information will be bolded. • Maximum of 3 paragraphs per screen. • Frequent overt feedback

  7. How would the program motivate & foster attitudes in learners? • Computer based training will be visually appealing. • If they get the questions right, they will be complimented. • If they get the questions wrong, they will get responses such as, “Great try, try again.”

  8. Advantages & Disadvantages—Social Learning Theory • Attention: My computer training must be appealing enough to keep their attention. But, I don’t want it to use too much multimedia because it may distract the learner from learning. • Retention: My computer training program will have questions to help them retain the information they just learned. The advantage is that it will be designed so the learner can’t progress to the next level until they correctly answered most of the question. The disadvantage is that the learner may get frustrated with incorrectly answering the questions and give up—leave the training.

  9. Advantages & Disadvantages Spcial Learning Theory 2 • Production: The advantage is that the learner should be able answer most of the questions they just read about. If they don’t know the questions, they can start over. The disadvantage is that my program will be all text which may not difficult for learners with reading difficulties.

  10. Advantage & Disadvantage Social Learning Theory 3 • Motivation: the advantage of my computer based program is that it will compliment them when they correctly answer the questions. Hence, this will help them feel intrinsically satisfied. The disadvantage is that to some learners, compliments are an intrinsic reward, not an extrinsic reward.
