Gain hands-on experience in Maricopa County Superior Court Civil Division through projects, meetings with judges, and academic components.

NEW Advanced Writing Clerkship – Spring 2010 • Three (3) credit clerkship in Maricopa County Superior Court Civil Division (180 hours.) • New program within externship program. • Open to four (4) third year (3L) students. • Most work done offsite (not at the courthouse.)
Experiences: • Meetings with assigned Judges. • Review dispositive motions and/or complex substantive motions. • Brief facts/issues as directed. • Attend oral arguments. • Write assignments and revise with judicial supervision. • Meet with Judge Myers for projects and assistance.
Academic Component • Students will meet with Externship Director at least three times as a group at an agreed upon time.

Applications – cont. • 2. Resume • 3. Unofficial transcript • 4. Writing sample (five or so pages no smaller that 10 pt. double spaced.) • Upload documents on Symplicity under “Advanced Writing Clerkship – Spring 2010” • DEADLINE: Tuesday November 24, 2009 by 5pm.
Selection Process • Applications will be initially screened, then Civil Judges will review and/or interview qualified students. • Students will be notified of clerkship selection by January 15, 2010.
Registration • Register for three (3) credits for spring 2010 under “Judicial Externship.” • Students may not register for another externship (including legislative internship) or clinic during the spring semester. • Turn in timesheets to Carolyn Landry every two weeks.
