  2. Beginning of HP • Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard became friends • They started off small and were located in a garage. After early success with a few of their first inventions they began to expand • In 1966 Bill and Dave decided to open up a central research lab

  3. First Research Lab • main goal of this lab was to bring together a bunch of researchers and have them think of ideas that would eventually shape the company’s future. • This pushed their company to the next level and Allowed for even more expansion

  4. Engineers in Labs • Engineers at these labs have been doing things such as exploring new computing architectures, color printing technologies, or even quantum computing • Pride themselves on pleasing the customer and figuring out what type of customer will benefit from their innovations “We rarely work on technology for technology's sake”.

  5. Main Location • The first lab that was built, which is still HP’s main lab today is located in Palo Alto, CA • around 200 scientists work to contribute to the growth of this company

  6. Biggest Early Success • started off as a programmable desktop calculator that had a 14-layer printed circuit board and it had to store its programs on a separate magnetic card • This eventually turned into the first ever calculator that could fit into a shirt pocket

  7. HP Stepping it Up • The calculator was soon followed by HP introducing its first PC in 1984 • Then Shortly after they released their first Lap Top

  8. Other Important Locations • HP also has very successful Labs located in: Cambridge, MA Bristol, England …. And even Isreal

  9. Company Expansion • HP continued to grow exponentially as time went on • They merged with Compaq in 2002 and they now served over 1 billion customers from over 162 countries • From 1984 to 2006 HP had shipped 100 million laser-jet printers

  10. Best Achievement HP has been around for 75 years and was actually the largest manufacturer of personal computers up until 2013
