What is GRAPES?
What is a CIVILIZATION? A civilization is a society with cities, a centralgovernment, workers, who specialize in certain jobs leading to socialclasses, that has religion, writing, art, and architecture.
Location • Natural Resources • Crops • Weather • Landforms • Bodies of water • Where is the civilization? • What sort of crops can they grow? • What natural resources do they have? Geography
Beliefs • Number of gods • Afterlife • Meeting Places • Texts • Moral Code • What do the people believe? • How do their beliefs affect their lives? Religion
Achievements • What did they contribute to the world? • What did they invent? • What did they build (architecture)? • Architecture • Inventions • Language • Literature • Academics
What was their government like? • Who made the decisions in the society? • What were their laws? • Structure of government • Rulers • Political Systems Politics
How did the society distribute their resources? • Did they trade or use money? • What did they sell or trade? • What did they need to get from outside of their civilization? • Money/ currency • Barter/ trade • Imports/ Exports • Professions Economics
Art • Music • Clothing • Education • Recreation • Culture • What were their social class systems? • Who was considered more important in their society? • What were their art, music, and recreation like? Social Structure
Group Poster • You will make a poster as a group to describe GRAPES • You need 2 pictures for each letter, and you will need to label each part (G=geography, etc) • Use the magazines to find examples of each part of culture • USE YOUR NOTES
TOD-Ticket Out the Door • Put your name on your Post it note • Write out GRAPES and give 1 example for each part of civlization • Stick it on the Parking Lot when finished! • (Yes, you may use your notes)
