CONGRATULATIONS! You need to do your very best to help him become the new Mayor of Two Mills. Get ready to make all the citizens of Two Mills see why you think Maniac would be the best mayor for their town.

Maniac for Mayor Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Resources Credits Additional WebQuest Components Task Now let’s get campaigning!  From this moment on, you are Maniac’s Campaign Manager and #1 fan! Maniac Magee for Mayor of Two Mills! You can work with one partner or by yourself – it is up to you.  Students will create a campaign poster and slogan promoting Maniac Magee for Mayor of Two Mills.

Maniac for Mayor Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Resources Credits Additional WebQuest Components Task (continued) Students will have to incorporate a reason why Maniac would be a good candidate for Mayor - citing specific examples from the book of what Maniac can do for their town.   These examples will also be detailed and expanded upon in the persuasive speech you write for your campaign.

Maniac for Mayor Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Resources Credits Additional WebQuest Components TASK(continued) Your speech can delivered in one of 3 ways: • PowerPoint presentation • video tape (commercial advertisement), • tape recording (radio advertisement). If you choose to use either PowerPoint or actual video taping, your poster and slogan can be included in that format.

Maniac for Mayor Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Resources Credits Additional WebQuest Components PROCESS POSTER & SLOGAN: Step 1 • Brainstorm ideas for your campaign slogan and poster. You may want to research campaign slogans/posters used in the past for both local and national elections (see resources). Step 2 • Decide on a campaign slogan and poster idea. • Create a Rough Draft/sketch of slogan and poster. Make sure your slogan and poster relate to the position you are choosing to promote for Maniac for Mayor.

Maniac for Mayor Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Resources Credits Additional WebQuest Components PROCESS Step 3 • At least 2 students need to proofread/edit your work.   Step 4 • Meet with the teacher for final editing/revision comments. Step 5 • Re-write and draw your poster and slogan.  Make sure you are referring back to your rough copy for changes that were made during proofing.

The speech needs to focus on 1 or 2 issues that you, as the campaign manager, are highlighting  and focusing on for your campaign platform - the reasons you believe that Maniac would be the best choice for Mayor of Two Mills.

They will take an active role in creating a campaign slogan and poster and also persuasive speech which will promote their candidate. • Students will demonstrate their knowledge of persuasive writing by following the steps of the writing process to create their own written persuasive speech. • Students will develop a campaign poster and slogan promoting Maniac Magee for Mayor

(Refer to slide/page 8 for details) The Persuasive Written speech will also be graded using 2 rubrics focusing on specific domains and conventions which are detailed in the rubric. (please refer to slides/pages 9 and 10)
