Categories Have Changed • Hispanic is re-labeled Hispanic/Latino • Asian or Other Pacific Islander race category is disaggregated into two • Asian • Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander • New aggregate reporting category- • Two or more races
Collection Has Changed • Two-part collection format- • Hispanic/Latino ethnicity [Yes or No] • Race [select one or more] • Parent/guardian provide information? • If no, observer report REQUIRED • Re-identification of Race/Ethnicity under new guidelines is encouraged, but not required
Two-part Ethnicity and Race Identification First identify whether child is of Hispanic/Latino ethnicity Then identify child with one or more race category options Hispanic/Latino is an ethnic type, not a race category
