  5. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Trojan Academy is to provide a positive transition for ninth graders into high school. The focus of the curriculum is to familiarize students with the many facets of Hialeah-Miami Lakes, to gain test taking tools, and to explore career pathways and decision making strategies for career development and post secondary school education.

  6. THREE MAIN GOALS OF THE TROJAN ACADEMY: • Academic Engagement of all students • Personalized Learning Environment • Empowered Educators

GOAL #1:ACADEMIC ENGAGEMENT • Engage all students in rigorous, standards-based core academic curriculum. • Differentiate instruction and provide supports that meet the varied learning needs of multiple student populations. • Integrate information and communication technology skills. • Redesign secondary school courses and instructional methods so that they are engaging to students. • Connect curriculum to real-world contexts that build upon student and community resources. • Provide individualized guidance, information, and resources on career pathways and opportunities for participating in workplace-based learning. • Assess students by using multiple measures, including performance-based assessments.

GOAL #2:PERSONALIZED LEARNING ENVIRONMENT • Structure school size and schedules so that all students and all teachers are in small learning environments. • Develop academically rigorous curricula that meet or exceed international standards, are relevant to real-world contexts, and build on student and community assets. • Build capacity of teachers to provide, or identify the need for appropriate supports and accommodations for multiple student populations. • Establish teacher teaming and looping structures Work across the school system to address student needs at critical transitions, in particular the transition from the elementary to middle grades, and from middle grades to high school Build student capacity and provide opportunities for students to exercise leadership and civic engagement. • Involve students in decision-making about their academic development.

GOAL #3:EMPOWERED EDUCATORS • Structure common planning for collaborative development of curriculum and instruction, assessment of student work, and analysis of student performance data. • Empower instructional staff with authority to define professional development needs and to make decisions about curriculum, teaching methods, and classroom environment. • Utilize communities of practice as a mechanism for transforming the way educators are prepared, inducted, and retained.

The Academy of Information Technology (AOIT) Provides: • Technological and literacy skills needed to compete successfully in the global workforce. • Daily instruction using interdisciplinary thematic units. • An opportunity for students to apply for the Gold Seal Scholar Award, which will pay up to 75% of college tuition at all state universities. • The following programs of study and courses: Introduction to Information Technology, Computer Programming, Web Design, Digital Design, and Networking. • Exciting field trips and summer internships.

MISSION STATEMENT The purpose of this program is to introduce students to the concept of entrepreneurship, present entrepreneurship as a viable career option, provide students with the skills needed to realistically evaluate their potential as a business owner, and develop the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to start and operate a business.

The Small Business and Entrepreneurship Academy will focus on developing the following skills: • Enterprise: Learn how businesses operate and how to apply those skills to manage your future. • Team Building: Understand your role as a team player and how to apply those skills to real life situations. • Employability Skills: Practice and refine the personal and professional skills that will assist you in securing the right internship and best first job. • Financial Skills: Acquire the basic skills of managing money. • Information Management: Use technology to communicate and organize information. • Ethics and Best Practices: Learn how the best practices in business and life can affect your future.

  19. MISSION STATEMENT The purpose of the programs in this cluster is to prepare students for employment or advanced training in the health occupations industry. The programs in this cluster also provide students with the opportunity to be cross-trained in a variety of entry level positions such as Home Health Aide, Nursing Assistant and First Responder.

  20. The following list is comprised of the two required courses in this career cluster and the optional program and 3rd related course that is available: • Health Science 1(The course Anatomy and Physiology may be substituted for this course.) • Health Science 2(Diversified Health Occupations) • Optional - Nursing Assistant3(This course should be taken concurrently with Health Science 2 and requires clinical hours at a local medical facility)

  23. MISSION STATEMENT The Academy of Visual and Performing Arts at HML offers students the opportunity to explore their interest in a specific field as a possible career choice. Students will be required to follow a recommended class schedule each of their years in the Academy. Students may enter the Academy at any grade level with approval of the Academy staff. Numerous field trips and performances will be required of the Academy student. Upon graduation, students will receive a special letter of academy completion and recommendations to colleges and universities of their choice (in addition to their high school diploma). Graduation from an academy program is considered very prestigious and aids students with university admission.
