  1. New Definition for “bad hair day” Another insight to men…

  2. Review from Repentance Define word “repentance.” Repentance is a change of mind and attitude toward God. It means to turn from sin and turn toward God. What scripture identifies repentance as one of the primary doctrines of the Church? Hebrews 6:2

  3. Review from Repentance Define “sanctification.” Sanctification means set apart for a holy use. Define “justification.” To be declared “not guilty.” You are fully forgiven and justified of all past sins. Define “conversion.” A turning from the way of sin to the way of God. It is closely connected with God’s calling, repentance and baptism, and is sealed by the gift of the Holy Spirit

  4. Review from Repentance Repentance is a requirement for what? Baptism.

  5. Introduction… Water Baptism

  6. Not recommended…

  7. Fundamental Belief: Water Baptism Water baptism by immersion after repentance pictures the forgiveness of sin, the burial of the old man and the beginning of a new life in Christ. Through prayer and the laying on of hands following baptism, repentant believers receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and become part of the spiritual Body of Jesus Christ. By yielding to and being led by the Holy Spirit, those who have repented and been baptized experience a true change in life, attitude and way of thinking. Scriptural support: John 3:23; Acts 2:38; 8:14-17; 19:5-6; Ephesians 4:22-24; 1 Corinthians 12:13.

  8. Questions… Is water baptism essential for salvation? What is the proper form? Should babies be baptized? What words should be used at baptism? Should one be baptized immediately?

  9. Entering God’s presence… 4 2 3 Burnt offering. Repentance from sin. 1 Washing. Baptism. Incense; shewbread; candelabra. Prayer; study; spiritual food. Baptism and Conversion Holy of Holies; presence of God. Before God’s throne.

  10. Basics of Baptism… Mark 1:15 “Repent, and believe in the gospel…” Acts 2:38 “Repent and let everyone of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Two conditions that must be met for baptism: Repent Believe

  11. Example of Jesus Christ… 1 Peter 2:21 “…leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps.” • Matthew 3:13-17 Christ is baptized by John. He was setting an example for all of us. John 3:22 “After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He remained with them and baptized.” The disciples of Christ baptized others.

  12. Christ commanded baptism… Mark 16:15-16 “And He said to them, Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” • Matthew 28:19-20 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”

  13. Peter commanded baptism… Acts 10:47-48 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have? And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days.”

  14. What is the correct form? • Greek word for baptism is baptizo. It means to immerse, to plunge into, put into, or dip. • Sprinkling or pouring is not baptism. • John required enough water, therefore used the Jordan River for baptisms (John 3:23). • Philip and the eunuch came up out of the water (Acts 8:39).

  15. Facts About Baptism… • We are not baptized into a denomination. • We do not baptize children. • Baptisms performed by an ordained minister or one authorized (trainee for example). • Counseling prior to baptism. • Baptism should be by the authority of Christ; therefore “in” His name.

  16. Baptism formula… Matthew 28:19 “…baptizing them in [into] the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” We also baptize by the authority of Jesus Christ or “in” the name of Jesus Christ.

  17. Baptism formula… Matthew 28:19 “Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit” (ASV). Greek word for in [into] is eis. “Into” is a better translation than “in” (as found in KJV and NKJV). Translated “into” 538 times in NT compared to “in” only 138 times.

  18. “In the Name of Jesus Christ” Acts 2:38 “Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ…” Acts 10:48 “And commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord…” Acts 19:5 “They were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus…” Acts 22:16 “Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.”

  19. How Long Should We Wait? Christ’s order of things… Preach the gospel Baptize repentant believers Teach them the commandments We should wait until one is convicted in his heart of his past sins and sinful life.

  20. Story of John the Baptist and His Baptism… Matthew 3:1-8 “In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea, and saying, Repent for the kingdom of heaven is a hand. For this is he who was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah… Now John himself was clothed in camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist, and his food was locusts and wild honey. Then Jerusalem, all Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him and were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.”

  21. Precedent for Re-Baptism… Acts 19:3-6 “And he said to them, Into what then were you baptized? So they said, Into John’s baptism. Then Paul said, John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is on Christ Jesus. When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them…”

  22. Conditions for Re-Baptism… • Improper understanding • Failure to repent (known by fruits) • Improper form of baptism • No laying on of hands

  23. Who Should Perform Baptisms? Acts 8:5 “Then Philip went down to the city of Samaria and preached Christ to them.” Acts 8:14-17 “Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, who when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit For as yet He [it] had fallen on none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.”

  24. The Symbolism of Baptism… Romans 6:3-4 “Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we are buried with Him through baptism unto death, that like as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

  25. Symbolism of Baptism… • Death (repentance of dead works) • Burial (baptism) • New life in Christ (type of resurrection) • Birth into the Kingdom of God (resurrection)

  26. What is baptism by fire? Matthew 3:11 “I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” Luke 3:16 “John answered, saying to all, "I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.”

  27. Baptism as Doctrine… Doctrine of baptisms… Hebrews 6:2 “…of the doctrine of baptisms.” Ephesians 4:5 “…one Lord, one faith, one baptism…” Is there more than one baptism? Only one true baptism – immersion into water and the spirit. Matthew 3:11 Bible does mention: baptism by water; baptism by the spirit; and baptism by fire.

  28. Conclusion… Water Baptism
