  1. Pulse Oximetry Project Summary of Information Flows, Workflow, Functional and Data Requirements

  2. Overview • Project focus on device-to-information system exchanges • A device manager may be used to support the standard-based exchange • Standardization of information exchange • Between device and information system • Between device manager and information system • Information flow • Workflow • Identifies configuration, verification, etc.

  3. Information Flow Measured results, abnormal flags, error information

  4. Validation at the point of care Verification Standard-based Transactions

  5. Monitoring and validation Standard-based Transactions Verification

  6. Workflow Device may monitor continuously or episodic/spot check If measurement fails to acquire a value, an alarm may be sent Verification at the point of care

  7. Re-attach probe

  8. Verification in the info system

  9. Data Analysis for Transactions Standard Codes will be used to represent these concepts Current Standard and future technical enhancements created by this project Associated information Measured Results

  10. Results Information - Detail Oxygen Saturation identifier is a code as “Coded Value” Zero or one occurrences - Optional Result: numeric quantity and units Zero or more occurrences – Repeated, optional Indicates the result is out of range Must match the probe Standard codes, units of measure

  11. Standard Codes will be used to represent these concepts

  12. Verification of results These data structures are reused for all identifiers, names, etc.

  13. Questions • Delayed Results • If a device fails to obtain a result, should it resend the previous value to the information system? • Missing Results • If a device fails to obtain a result (e.g. probe disconnected, low signal), should it send any values (e.g. default “0”) or stop sending information? • Frequency of reporting pulse oximetry • Continuous (e.g. OR, ICU) : one minute intervals • Spot-check: on-demand
