  1. The Jersey Devil: Fact Or Fantasy? I will tell you of a creature so fowl that you might just have an accident. By: Ian G.

  2. The Legend of the Jersey Devil • There are many stories behind the jersey devil but I’d like to tell you my favorite one... Legend says a woman was having her 13th child in a shack deep in the Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey. She then cried out, “Let it be the devil!” She got her wish and a big horse-like creature with horns, wings and a big, spiked tail was born. It flew into the air and started attacking everyone in the room. Then it flew up the chimney and disappeared.

  3. Additional facts on the Jersey Devil • The legend is that a devil baby was born in New Jersey. • Lady Leeds was having her 13th child. She wished it was the devil and she got her wish. • People have claimed sightings of the creature and terrible happenings due to its presence.

  4. Science Fiction Theories: • There has been said to have been many sightings since its birth. • People claim to see a creature with large, bat-like wings and a horse head, hooves and tail. • The number of sightings goes up before times of war. • Something that is confusing to the theory of the Jersey Devil is that there are so many different stories about it and the sightings are often by many (respectable) people at one time.

  5. Scientific Explanation: • There are no records confirming of denying a birth at that time. • One sighting was by the town drunk and many believe this sighting to be a hallucination. • Many birds migrate through this area and the sightings could be due to the odd look and shrill cry of the Sandhill Crane. • This whole thing could have been just a set up by some person wanting to scare people.

  6. Reasoned Judgment • Based on my research, I believe this is a true legend, because the Jersey Devil is the only thing that makes sense to me with all of the stories out there of things that have happened. • I don’t believe that this whole thing is a hoax like some people think because I believe in ancient and mystical things.
