  2. Today’s Idea Unless your work is so valuable that people are willing to die trying to decipher it, presentation of your work often matters as much as the work itself!

  3. 8.1 Presenting The Final Design • Presenting the final design represents the end of the design phase • It is an opportunity to demonstrate your skills • Focus on the needs of the audience • Prepare for any unlikely happenings • Overcome fear to learn useful skills http://answers.google.com/answers/main?cmd=threadview&id=47687

  4. 8.1.1 Developing Presentation Skills • Understanding and practice are ways to overcome fears • Talks should be correct and interesting • Use the Project Folder to build your presentation • Use software intelligently to illustrate your points • Build simple and elegant presentations • Remember that in-room presentations are different from remote ones • Always avoid pointless repetition

  5. 8.1.2 Preparing Visual Displays • Overhead transparencies: easy and commonly used although static, B&W, and expensive • 35 mm slides: Provides bright colors, high quality, and are inexpensive • Computer-based projectors: • They used to be expensive but their price has recently dropped • Once they are mastered, they can save lots of time • Back-ups are necessary due to insufficient reliability

Slide Organization: • The framing elements should be simple and should never detract • The key ideas should be identified with few words in bullets • The safest way to include additional information is by including a note page with each slide • Visual aides really do matter • Colors must be chosen with care • Animation should only be used when needed • Videos could also be used for credibility

  8. 8.1.4 Involving all team members in your presentation • Involve everyone • Teams must adapt to their members’ needs • Uncover reasons of lack of involvement? • Try to overcome them?

  9. Self-Assessment Questions • How many of the listed elements does this report contain? • What, if anything, essential is missing? • What do you like most about it? • What do you like least? • How would you improve it? • What kind of suggestions might you provide to its authors
