  3. Review: The Law - Then Exodus 20, The 10 Commandments • I. Be in Constant Awe of God • II. Give God Top Priority in your Life • III. Treat others with Love and Respect • IV. Keep Your Motives Pure

  4. Review: The Law - Now Romans 3:19-20 • The Law Was Given So You Could Understand Your Sin • The Law Was Given So You Might Believe in Jesus • The Law Was Given So You Could Accept God’s Grace

  5. Introduction • If you've had a teacher or coach who seemed harsh, why do you think this person acted that way? • How did your perspective change, if at all, as you got to know the teacher or coach better, or after you saw the results in the classroom or on the field? • When have you felt like God was a harsh teacher or coach? Explain.

  6. Introduction (VIDEO) • … don’t teach me how to live like a free man • … i don’t wanna know if the answers aren’t easyso just bring it down from the mountain to me • … don’t teach me about moderation and libertyi prefer a shot of grape juice • … don’t teach me how to listen to the Spiritjust give me a new law

Ezekiel 36:26-28 • 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. 28 You will live in the land I gave your forefathers; you will be my people, and I will be your God.

  8. I. Allow God to Give You A New Heart • How does sin damage your spiritual heart? • When God promises to give us a new heart, what practical impact does that have on our lives?

  9. II. Rely on the Holy Spirit • Read Ephesians 5:18. Why would Paul contrast being drunk with alcohol to relying on the Holy Spirit? • What are some of the results of relying on the Holy Spirit?

  10. III. Trust God for the Power to Live Godly Life • What role have your friends played in helping you live a godly life? What role have you played in your friends' lives? • When have you seen big change happen in your life, and what role did God have in that?

  11. IV. Additional Discussion • How do you think the Israelites felt whenever they heard that a prophet had a message for them? • How did the prophets offer hope to the Israelites while at the same time correcting their behavior? • What are some modern-day things that cause us to get too comfortable with our own "captivity" in the world? • Read Ezekiel 36:26-28 and Jeremiah 31:31-34. What are some differences some similarities between these two passages from the Old Testament? • Read Hosea 1:2. Why would God tell Hosea to go marry a prostitute?

  12. V. Application • What specific things in your life harden your heart? What things soften your heart? • What's some evidence that God has given you a new heart? • How does God's promise of a new heart give you hope for the future?

  13. VI. Summary The Prophets - Then Ezekiel 36:26-28 • Allow God to give you a new Heart. • Rely on the Holy Spirit • Trust God for the power to live a Godly Live CLOSING PRAYER

  14. Memorize: Ezekiel 36:26 And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart (Ezekiel 36:26).
