Goals of this evening • To define Academic Intervention Services (AIS) and Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) at Union Endicott • To provide information regarding changes in New York State Assessments and implementation of the Common Core State Standards • To provide you, the parent, with tools to help your child succeed with higher, more rigorous expectations for learning • To offer the opportunity to ask questions regarding AIS and LLI at Union Endicott

  3. What are academic intervention services (AIS)? “Academic Intervention Services are [support systems designed to] help students who are struggling to achieve the learning standards in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics in grades K-12.” A Guide to Academic Intervention Services, NYSUT

  4. What is Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI)? LLI is a form of Academic Intervention Service which,”supports learning in both reading and writing, with a goal of bringing students to grade level achievement in reading.” www.heinemann.com www.googleimages.com

  5. Why are Academic Intervention Services Provided at AGM? Grades K-3 ELA, Math (grade 3) • Grade level assessments and teacher recommendations drive AIS placements at these grade levels • Early Intervention is the best opportunity for students to meet grade level expectations Grades 4 &5 ELA, Math • New York State mandates students performing at a level 1 or 2 the previous school year (within a given range) receive AIS • Consistent support, with individualized instruction, is an opportunity for students to meet grade level expectations
