  3. In comparison, the Nile floods were predictable. • Every year – September & October • Deposited silt & provided fertile pastures

  4. Predictability of Nile influenced culture: • belief that life was cyclical • security • supply of food+ stability & growth

  5. Large irrigation projects not needed. • Majority people lived in rural areas not cities.

  6. Nile- unified lower & Upper Egypt • Lower Egypt- Delta region that bordered Mediterranean Sea • Important cities located in this region

  7. Natural Barriers / Protection • Fostered isolation • Sense of security • Deserts east& west • rapids(cataracts) southern Nile • Mediterranean to North • Barriers didn’t prevent trade
