BioSLAX • BioSLAX is a live operating system running out of a CD or USB • Based on SLAX live CD created by Tomas Matejicek • Runs completely from memory, leaving data on the hard disk untouched unless the user wants to write or read from it • Allows users to retain their current OS and still have access to a large number of bioinformatics tools

It is a full development server system running Apache and MySQL Can be configured to run as an FTP or SAMBA file sharing server Many other applications such as the Firefox web browser, Open Office (a free MS Office compatible suite), and other tools eg CD burning utilities, image manipulation tools Has a full compliment of development software, (gcc, g++, g77, perl, python) BioSLAX

  5. BioSLAX is based on a modular infrastructure. Applications can be made into modules Modules inserted either dynamically or via a special folder in the USB/CD Easy to customize the live system to your needs BioSLAX

  6. BioSLAX • BioSLAX comes with over 30 bioinformatics tools in either console, X-windows or webportal modes, including : • Artemis • Blast • Clustal • EMBOSS (JEMBOSS & WEMBOSS) • RasMOL • TreeView • Phylip • PamL • Just to name a few.

  8. BioSLAX • It is possible to make your BioSLAX live system into a web browsable, blast server. • Connect an external driver with your formated blast databases • Use the blast db setup gui to setup your dbs • Run web blast

  9. BioSLAX • Users can get a temporary FQDN using the Asia Pacific BioInformatics Network (APBioNET) domain name • (eg: myserver.bioslax.apbionet.org) • Run a small GUI utility and set the hostname • Domain name propogation takes place within 5 minutes • FQDNs will expire after 24 hours
