  3. CCP for TURKEY • The Codex Contact Point for Turkey is General Directorate of Food and Control (GDFC) under Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock(MFAL). MFAL is the competent authority on food safety due to Number 5996 Food Law in Turkey. • General Directorate for Food and Control (GDFC) is the main central service unit of the Ministry in charge of controlling and regulating food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary sectors.

CCP for TURKEY The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock(MFAL) the competent authority in the fields of food safety, veterinary and phytosanitary and responsible for developing policy, legislation and the enforcement for food and feed safety, animal health, animal welfare and plant health in Turkey.

NATIONAL FOOD CODEX COMMISSION • Turkey has National Food Codex Commission (NFCC) which consists of seven members who represent MFAL (two members), Ministry of Health (one member), Turkish Standard Institution (one member), Universities (two members) and NGO’s (one member).This Commission is responsible for preparing Turkish Food Codex which includes horizontal and vertical legislation that covers minimum technic and hygienic properties of foodstuffs. • Another responsibility of NFCC is to obtain national position for Codex meetings.

  7. Sub-Committees 29 sub-committees for each issue related to food under NFCC. Issues concerning Codex are performed by Food Codex Division at Department of Food Establishments and Codex under GDFC.

Elaboration of legislation • Preparationof DraftStandard DraftStandardsarepreparedbyrelatedsub-committeesunderNationalFoodCodexCommission • Pre-announcement of DraftStandard Thedraftstandard is pre-announcedtoencouragetheparticipation of citizenandotherinterestedparties on Ministry web-page. At thesame time, theofficiallettertoannouncethe start of commentperiod is sent torelatedparties. • CommentProcedure Thepriorcommentproceduresto be opentoallinterestedparties, includingnon-nationals.Thecommentperiodafterpre-announce is approximately 1 month. Sub-committeesmustgiveconsiderationtoallcommentsreceived. Allcommentsreceivedanddeterminedbythemembers of sub-committee. Aftercomments, sub-committeeevaluatesthecommentsandthendraft is sent to NFCC. • Publication NFCC decidetopublishortoreview of standard in sub-committeeagain. Theprocess of drafting a standardneedsapproximately 6 months-2 years (sometimeslonger)

  10. Co-hosting Experinces of Turkey • TheFourthSession of “TheCodexCommittee on Contaminants in Foods” washeld on 26-30 April 2010, İn İzmir/TURKEY.

  11. Co-hosting Experinces of Turkey • The CCEURO Physical Working Group on Ayran met in Istanbul (Turkey) from 29th to 31st May 2012.
