  4. BEFORE DEPARTURE • 30 KG Luggage Allowed (extra charge will be required) All luggage must be carried on your own • Passport, Visa, State Secretary Letter (SekNeg) • Do you need to bring Japanese Yen? Unnecessary

LuggageAll fellows should manage carrying their own luggage Restrictions on liquids, gels & aerosols as carry-on baggage All liquids, gels and aerosols must be contained in individual containers max 100 ml and put in transparent re-sealable plastic bag. Please show the plastic bag at the security checkpoint separately from other carry-on baggage, such as jackets, coats or electric products, for example laptops computers. Jackets, coats and laptops will be screened by X-ray. You can still buy liquid, gel and aerosol duty free items such as water, juice and liquor in the departure area after passing through the security checkpoint Cabin Luggage: 1 piece max 7 kg: Dimension 56x36x23 cm. Do not carry any sharps objects such as scissors, knives, cutters in cabin baggage.

  6. UPON ARRIVAL Entry Procedure: • Quarantine Inspection • Passport Control (Immigration ) • Baggage Claim • Customs Inspection You will need to fill-in the respective forms. Please make sure you check both sides of the forms to complete.

UPON ARRIVAL • Please IMMEDIATELY proceed to the arrival lobby once you have completed the entry procedure to meet the AsiaSEED staff waiting at the lobby; • You will receive your allowances for the first two months in cash (Please be careful not to lose your money); • If you want to send your luggage by courier, you can apply for the services at the courier counter. (Yen 2000-3000 /piece) .

  9. UPON ARRIVAL 1st Day AsiaSEED will accompany you to continue your journey by bus / train / airplane to the respective universities; Enter and settle in your lodgings, buy personal necessities.

  10. 2nd Day • Go to the City / Ward office with AsiaSEED staff • Register at the City Office for: • ・Foreign Resident Registration • ・National Health Insurance

  11. FOREIGN RESIDENT REGISTRATION (GAIKOKUJIN TOROKU) • All Foreign residents in Japan are required to be registered at the local government office • Required documents • 1 Passport • 2 Two Photos (W 3.5 cm by H 4.5 cm) • 3 About 300 Yen (for Certificate of Registration) • Foreign Registration Card will be issued in a few weeks. When ready, the card should be picked up by yourself at the City Office. You must carry the card at all times.

  15. NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE • The invoices are sent to your home. Please forward the invoices to AsiaSEED Office and AsiaSEED will settle the insurance payment; • Insurance premium (about 1000 yen/month) differs from city to city; • 70% of medical cost covered by NHI;

  19. ACADEMIC LIFE IN JAPAN(1. EARN YOUR DEGREE) • Time flies like an arrow. The duration of your study program in Japan is limited, only one year! • You need to make serious effort to earn your degree. • Have more initiative, practice analytical thinking, be more pro-active and confident, have academic curiosity. • You must improve English writing skills • No plagiarism (severe consequences)

UNIVERSITY LIFE) • Academic atmosphere is open for discussion with the professors, faculty members and fellow students.; • Try to be proactive and maintain close communication with professors, make use of the designated office hours to meet with the professors; • Talk to your supervisors or other faculty members, classmates, colleagues;

  21. ACADEMIC LIFE IN JAPAN(3. REPORTING AND MONITORING) • Asia SEED requires Fellows’ Progress Report regularly (by email) • Asia SEED visits your university for monitoring at least once in a year
