  2. In this unit you will learn…

  3. We often draw “icons” instead of reality.

  4. We confuse what we know with what we see.

  5. Can you guess which artists was drawing what she knew and which was drawing what she saw?

  6. We will learn about using the “right” brain to become more creative.

  7. We will draw an “upside down drawing.”

  8. We will learn to draw line, shape, angles and values rather than objects.

  9. We will learn the “look, hold, draw” technique.

  10. We will learn to really look while we drawso we can draw unusual angles, foreshortened objects, etc..

  11. We will become aware of negative shapes.

  12. We will learn to use grids to break down visual information . . .

  13. …so we can draw like this!

So, to sum it up, by the end of this unit you should have: • An understanding the difference between drawing icons and drawing reality. • Learned to draw more of what you see rather than what you know. • An understanding of “right/left brain” functions and how to get more into your “right” mind. • Become better at drawing line, shape, and value rather than “objects”. • Learned the “Look, Hold, Draw” technique. • Became more aware of negative space . • Discovered how to use a grid to create more accurate, precise drawings.
