In the absence of law- Might is Right The strong will dominate the weak Law grants the right to equality Law helps to protect life, liberty and property. THE LAWS, THE LEADERSHIP AND COMPLIANCE Law applicable to industrial scenario A company is a place where workmen and managers spend almost their full prime life Law is necessary to protect : - the life and liberty of workmen  dignity and freedom of expression of workmen  property inside and outside the industry  the environment and the ecosystem  population living in the vicinity  livestock in the vicinity DIRECTORATE OF FACTORIES, BOILERS, INDUSTRIAL SAFETY AND HEALTH

THE LAWS, THE LEADERSHIP AND COMPLIANCE Approach to a law?  Positivist approach to law; Eg: Traffic signal.  Naturalist approach to law; Moral principles and values.  Every good law has a good rationale.  Understand the rationale and follow the law.  Authorities should implement and enforce laws in a humane manner to give effect to the spirit of the law. A consultative and cooperative process  Have an open mind and positive approach towards enforcement officers.  Improve the Safety, Health, Environment and Welfare Measures.  Create conducive environment for self certification.  Adopt appropriate measures to reduce complaints from employees.  Opt for accreditation certificate like ISO, OSHA, etc.  Do not become complacent in providing minimum requirements like double wages for overtime, wage slips, leave books, personal protective equipment. THE LAWS, THE LEADERSHIP AND COMPLIANCE A consultative and cooperative processcontd…  Develop effective tools to Disseminate information.  Pre & periodical safety audit to review the adequacy of safety in the plant.  Train shop floor incharge personnel, provide adequate facilities, delegate powers and make them accountable.  Develop effective mechanism to establish contact with departmental officers.  Discourage usage of non standard equipment & machineries.   12. Leader with servant heart have certain characteristics and values in common His paramount aim is the best interest of those he lead. He gains personal satisfaction from watching the growth and development of those he leads. He will have a loving care. He wants to be held accountable, He will himself ask, “Has my performance met the needs of those I serve?”. He will be willing to listen. He loves to have feedback and advice – any information that will help to serve better. He will control his EGO. Zonal regulations to be strictly adhered to. • Fire and Emergency Services department to be adequately equipped with latest fire fighting appliances. • Deputy Commissioners and Police Officers of the districts to be more proactive and supportive. • Awareness and training campaigns to the District Administration through SDMA.
