Freshmen Grades Do Count! • Colleges verify that 9th grade CP classes are passed with at least a C grade • Recommendations for classes for future/advanced classes are dependent on grades in prerequisite classes • GPA for honors at graduation is cumulative • GPA is used for California Scholarship Federation

  13. California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) Date: March 18th and 19th 2 Sections: (1) English Language Arts (2) Math Students must pass each section with a score of 350 or higher www.cde.ca.gov/statetests/cahsee

  14. CAHSEE Overview • The first opportunity students have to take the CAHSEE is in grade 10. • Students have additional opportunities to take the part(s) of the CAHSEE not yet passed throughout high school • Students shall retake only the portion(s) of the exam not previously passed

  15. Exam Content Day One: English-Language Arts (ELA) • 72 multiple-choice items • 1 writing task • 7 multiple-choice field test items • Assesses content standards through grade 10 in reading and writing

CSU & UC GPA Requirement • GPA calculated beginning in 10th grade for approved “a-g” courses only • Minimum GPA required for CSU Eligibility is a 2.7, competitive GPA is a 3.2 or higher • Minimum GPA required for UC Eligibility is a 3.0, competitive GPA is a 4.0 or higher • Additional grade points given for grades of C or better in approved Honors or Advanced Placement Courses and transferable college courses

Eligibility vs. Selectivity • Meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee admission • To be selective in the admissions process, it is recommended that students complete additional college preparatory coursework • For selectivity, GPA and test scores need to be above minimum requirements

Private Colleges and Eligibility • Check with each college for specific subject and testing requirements • Generally speaking, meeting eligibility requirements for CSU & UC satisfy the requirements for private colleges • Private colleges use “comprehensive review” to admit students • Letters of recommendation are required for private schools
