  2. There have a number of rail accidents in India which have killed thousands of passengers onboard. These accidents occur due to human negligence, poor infrastructure and naturaldisasters.   3. Bihar Train Derailment Date - 6th June 1981 Death Toll: 600-800 This is by far the worst train accidents in India. A passenger train plunged into water causing 600-800 deaths. The actual reason of the derailment is still unknown.

  4. Firozabad Train Disaster Date - 20th August 1995 Death Toll: 358 Purushottam Express collided with Kalindi Express killing more than 350 people and several injured. This train disaster was one of the major train accidents in India.

  5. Gaisal Train Collision Date - 2nd August 1999 Death Toll: 290 This is amongst the major train accidents in India happened when Brahmaputra Mail and Avadh Assam Express collided into each other causing an explosive rail accident.

  6. Khanna Rail Disaster Date - 26th November 1998 Death Toll: 212 Considered as one of the worst train accidents in India, Khanna Rail disaster took the lives of many. The accident happened when Jammu Tawi Express rammed into already derailed Golden Temple Mail.

  7. Dhanushkodi Rail Disaster Date - 23rd December 1964 Death Toll: 150 The disaster happened when a Pamban-Dhanushkodi Passenger Train was crossing Pamban bridge. At the same time the town was hit by a cyclone killing a huge number of people. It was one of the major train accidents in India.

  8. Jnaneswari Train Derailment Date - 28th May 2010 Death Toll: 148 Jnaneswari train derailment is one of the most infamous train accidents in India which happened in Midnapore District of West Bengal. It happened when Jnaneswari super deluxe ran on missing track and derailed.
