  1. Today: Exponents

  2. Exponent A math operation that means repeated multiplication of the same number

  3. Parts of an Exponential Equation 32 = 9 is the same as 3•3 = 9 • Exponent: Tells you how many times to multiply a number (2 in the example above) • Base: The number being multiplied (3 in the example above) • Power: The answer in an exponential problem (9 in the example above)

  4. Today: Roots

  5. Roots are the Inverse of Exponentials • Root: Just like subtraction undoes addition, and division undoes multiplication, roots undo exponents. They are the inverse operation.

  6. Square Roots • Square: An exponent of 2 is called the square because the area of a square is the side length to the power of 2. • Square Root: is the inverse of the square. • The example above shows the square and the square root for a square with side length 7

  7. Rational Numbers Can be written as a fraction of 2 integers

  8. Examples of Rational Numbers

  9. Irrational Numbers Cannot be written as a fraction of 2 integers

  10. Examples of Irrational Numbers

  11. Math A Students Don’t forget today’s Fraction Quiz Retake during ASC!
