  2. Focus – Day one • To understand the measurement process and the need for having standard units by measuring length with non-standard units and eventually with standard units to the nearest inch.

  3. Focus – day two • Measuring length to the nearest ½ and ¼ of an inch.

  4. Focus – day three • To be able to choose the appropriate unit of measure for different objects. • To be able to estimate and measure in inches, feet, yards, and miles.

  5. Focus – day four • To be able to choose the appropriate unit and tool to measure or estimate in cups, pints, quarts, and gallons. • To identify objects which hold about a cup, pint, quart, or gallon.

  6. Focus – Day five • To be able to choose the appropriate unit and tool to measure or estimate in ounces, pounds, and tons. • To identify objects which weigh about an ounce, pound, or ton.

  7. Inch (in) • Smallest customary unit of length. Used in the USA!

  8. Foot (ft) • A customary unit of measurement. 1 foot equals 12 inches.

  9. Yard (yd) • A customary unit of measurement. 1 yard equals 36 inches or 3 feet.

  10. Mile (mi) • The largest customary unit of measurement. 1 mile equals 5,280 feet.

  11. Capacity • The volume of a container measured in liquid units

  12. Cup (c) • A customary unit of capacity.

  13. Pint (pt) • A customary unit of capacity. 2 cups equals 1 pint.

  14. Quart (qt) • A customary unit of capacity. 1 quart equals 2 pints, SO 1 quart equals 4 cups.

  15. Gallon (gal.) A customary unit of capacity. 1 Gallon equals 4 Quarts.

  16. Weight • A measure of how light or heavy something is.

  17. Ounce (oz) • The smallest customary unit of weight.

  18. Pound (lb.) • A customary unit of weight. 1 pound equals 16 ounces.

  19. Ton (T) • The largest customary unit of weight.
