Science, Literacy, and Art Integration in the 21st Century • Collaboration with the school district and community partners such as museums • Teacher Professional Development Program Pre K-12 • Various educational outcomes • Shared planning time • Integrated lessons • New teaching pedagogy focused on skills and process • Authentic relevant learning in/out of the classroom

  4. SLANT Model Program Situation: There is a shortage of rich arts and science programs for students that include creativity, real-world problem solving, and discussions. Insufficient numbers of students are graduating with 21st century skill sets. Teachers needs strategies, time, and resources to integrate art and science across the curriculum. INPUTS OUTPUTS OUTCOMES PROGRAM STAFF ACTIVITIES PARTICIPATIONS SHORT MEDIUM LONG Professional development and collaboration time School district students, teachers, and leadership Teachers collaborate in using resources from workshops to develop curricula or specific projects. Classroom time for project based learning and art and science increases. SLANT teacher leaders use trans-disciplinary methods and mentor peers. COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND PARTNERS Website, articles, research, and presentations developed to share resources internally and externally. Student equity and achievement improves. Documentation and assessment Community partners and organizations Teacher and student learning is documented. SCHOOL DISTRICT TEACHERS AND STUDENTS Teacher retention improves. Teacher and student use of program materials A model framework is developed. Teachers increase their content knowledge of art and science integration and interdisciplinary teaching. A platform has been established for SLANT longevity. Institution of higher education A majority of SLANT teachers continue in program and use trans-disciplinary teaching strategies. Model development MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES A national model is developed and distributed. ASSUMPTION: Teachers are given continued support to collaborate and participate in professional development. EXTERNAL FACTORS: State and district budgets, staffing, prioritization, funding for research and evaluation, teacher retention, and equity issues.
