  1. PROCEDURE TO PERFORM CONVERTER STALL SPEED TEST If the converter is unable to take the output from the gearbox, the engine will operate at stall speed. When the torque converter prevents the engine from delivering power to the transmission, it increases engine stall RPM. The first step in performing the converter stall test is to install a tachometer, restrict all four wheels, and activate the parking brake. Ensure that the tachometer can be seen from the driver's seat. Press and hold the throttle pedal to the floor for two or three seconds while maintaining pressure on the brake pedal. Because the test stresses the transmission, always refer to the manufacturer's guidelines. Never go beyond five seconds.
