  2. Lambaste Because I arrived late from the party, my parents, who at this point were very petulant, lambasted me all night about how I needed to be more obedient. - V – attack, usually with words, criticize (someone or something) harshly.

  3. Impasse • Allen continued to yell, say smart comments, and ignore his girlfriend causing a harsh impasse in their relationship. - N – a situation in which no progress is possible, esp. because of disagreement; a deadlock

  4. Jargon • Today, many teens use jargon in texting to reduce the time in which they talk, therefore they can have more time for themselves. - N - slang

  5. Deter • Bruce, a want to be professional basketball player, after making a series of shots, was abruptly detered by Lebron James. - V – prevent, block

  6. Tenuous • Compared to most of the boys in his class, Bruce is a very tenuous, sensitive young boy, therefore he gets very emotional whenever he argues with his girlfriend. - Adj – weak, thin

  7. Vigorous • Kayla vigorously moved to the sound of the music that made her want to move, spin, and clap. - Adj – energetic, powerful

  8. Amity • To keep an amity alive, it is necessary for the relationship to stay strong by supporting each other, communicating, and spending time together. - N - friendship

  9. Gravitas • At the funeral, it was clear to sense the high level of gravitas that roamed through the room causing sadness, tears, and sorrow. • -n- high seriousness

  10. Emphatic • Alicia Keys, once on stage, acted emphatically making that performance one of her best. • Adj– assertive, confident

  11. Vehement When you are in love, its common to have vehement feelings towards your partner; however, those feelings may differ. - Adj – showing strong feeling; forceful, passionate, or intense

  12. Preeminent At our high school graduation, there was a selective group of students who throughout their high school years were very preeminent; for example, received straight A’s every year. -Adj– superior, outstanding, distinguished, above the rest

  13. Resurgence Eric, a kid with cancer, was living his last moments until magically the doctors said he had an opportunity of a resurgence. -N – rebirth
