  1. Release of WinRiver II Version 2.03 OSW Webinar: November 25 and December 2, 2008 Mike Rehmel

  2. Topics Covered WinRiver II Version 2.03 • Improved Stability • Change in Side-lobe Cutoff • Other Fixes and Changes • SxS Changes • All users should upgrade

  3. Improved Stability • Some computers were very unstable with previous versions • Significant effort was placed on improve stability in this release • 2.03 has greatly improved in all cases • If after upgrading to 2.03 you still have any crashes let us know!

  4. Change in Side-Lobe Cutoff • Old side lobe was calculated as 6% of the mean beam depth for each ensemble • If one beam struck something, it was possible for that beam to report a velocity past the bottom and this velocity be used for the bin velocities below the depth of the shallowest beam

  5. Change in Side-Lobe Cutoff • Side lobe is now calculated from 6% of the shallowest beam

  6. Change in Side-Lobe Cutoff • New side lobe cutoff off may result in • Larger bottom Q and smaller measured Q • Fewer good bins near edges Old Side Lobe New Side Lobe

  7. Change in Side-Lobe • Overall affect on total discharge • Reviewed 70 measurements so for • Mean depth range: .65 to 13 ft • Q range: 7.5 to 18100 cfs • Average change in discharge < 1% (Median + 0.3%) • 3 out of 70 measurements had > 5% change in Q and had mean difference of beam depths for individual ensembles between 17 and 32% • Largest changes in Q likely in measurements with few bins per ensemble with uneven bottoms (depths varying on average > 15% per ensemble) • Reprocessing old measurements currently not recommended. If you have measurements with significant depth variations (in individual ensembles) contact OSW • Additional guidance will be provided in an upcoming memo

  8. Other Fixes and Changes • Enabled diagnostic test for StreamPro • Lost ensembles labeled correctly now • Changed locking mechanism(no longer file permission) • Fixed total Q not including ending edge in composite tabular during data collection • Fixed lock-up in wizard with certain drafts • Fixed counting Pass-Fail in RGTest • Changed default filename prefix to station number

  9. Other Fixes and Changes • Fixed Q Measurement Summary • Sdev, incorrect when in English units • %Bad Ens label • Width label • WT Pings label • Remarks not wrapping correctly • Improved ability to collect data if crash occurs • Fixed problem with raw data files being recorded in multiple directories • Fixed multiple ASCII-out issues

  10. SxS Mode Changes • Can now set ADCP draft for each section • Can edit section location in playback • Added new velocity magnitude graph for evaluating extrapolation • Can mark section not used in playback • Can use screening thresholds • Can set extrapolation per section (only ice, bidirectional, normal, wind) • Ability to reload .mmt file and collect data • Has not been tested by OSW

  11. Summary • Much improved Stability • New side lobe cutoff may result in changes in discharge • Should be small < %1 for most measurements • Shallow cross sections with uneven depths (avg > 15% variation in beam depths with an ensemble) may have larger changes in Q. • Other minor issues fixed • SxS has been modified to include many OSW recommendations, but has not been fully tested • All users should upgrade
