Ontario and California • A strong and productive relationship already exists: • The Governor visited in May 2007 and the Premier will visit later this year • Approximately 55% of Canadian parent companies with a presence in California are based in Ontario. • Ontario accounts for 73% of the Canadian merchandise exports to California, and for 55% of the Canadian imports from California. • California is the second largest market for Ontario’s goods, and the seventh largest source of Ontario’s imports among US states.

  3. The Ontario Economy Ontario is the economic engine of Canada • 39% of Canada’s GDP • 39% of the population • 39% of the employment • 40% of Canada’s personal income • 49% of the manufacturing shipments • 45% of total Canadian exports • 50% of international immigration

Exports are almost 60% of Ontario’s GDP • Total Ontario GDP in 2006: US$ 487.6 billion • Total international exports in 2006: 58.9% of GDP • California accounts for almost 10% of Ontario’s global merchandise exports. • Ontario exports more to California than it does to the UK, Mexico and China combined.
