What narrative is given to us , and from this what do we expect the rest of the film's narrative will be from the information that we have been given? • Violence – protective outfits and guns • Fear – unsteady speech, fast pace walking • Friendship – partners and close bond • Heroic – fighting in a war for freedom

  4. Who is the target audience for this film, how do we know this from the opening scene? • Target audience: 25-60 years of age • Male – as there are themes of violence • White – all cast members are white • Lower to Upper class

  5. How is the genre of the film set up in the opening scene? What key conventions have been used? • Slow pace – one continuous shot • Friendship – protect one another at all costs • Heroism – saving many men • Conflict – two groups of people against each other

  7. Do you think this is a successful opening scene? • I think that this is a successful opening scene because you see the entire feelings and thought process of the soldiers in one continuous shot.
