Resident Research Project 1993 -Residency Standards Adopted -Residents required to complete research project -NCOPE required submission of title 1998 -Required to submit Entire project to NCOPE 1996 -Required to submit abstract And a title 2006 -Research Project now “Directed Study” -Established guidelines for Directed Study *Effective 2007

Recommendations • Have committee created that deals with research for the residency and interface with the Academy’s research education committee • Creation of templates to collect data • At a minimum add informed consent to process for human subject research • Have the residents sign a statement on plagiarism

  7. Recommendations • Look into changing name • Look at expanding the types of research to include entrepreneurship • Create more assistance on training directors on the research component of the residency program

  8. Recommendation • Revise/investigate changes to the residency site application to gain info on the site • Include in the application process for sites to identify the type of resident project they can offer at their site, based upon definitions and templates provided.

  9. Key Elements • Not all practitioner’s will want to do research • Levels of research requirements should be established • Recognition that different residency sites offer variety of experiences based on location, funding, etc.
