  2. MISSION: The mission of the Parkway School District is to ensure all students are capable, curious and confident learners who understand and respond to the challenges of an ever-changing world.

Timeline and Next Steps: • Take One! • October 2012 – April 2013 • School informational meetings about full National Board Certification • December 2012 Updates on Take One! 15 schools visited Spoke with 35 teachers 25 participants enrolled

DIA – Diversity in Action • Established Goals: • All DIA members will connect DIA Team work (social justice concepts, DIA initiatives) to Parkway district programs and buildings through Mission. • Reduce/eliminate the achievement gap, to ensure all students are capable, confident and curious and well prepared for future endeavors. • DIA Leaders and Administrators will continue to implement Building Level Action Plans. • Accomplish 2012-2013 goals set in the specific Focus Areas (i.e. HRRP, Curriculum, Parent Involvement, Professional Learning, etc.) of the DIA District Action Plan.

DIA - Professional Learning Focus Area • Members: Ann LoPiccolo, Dan Tripp, Ryun Deckert, JennDieken-Buchek, Beth Donovan, Jenny Lange, Sara Loehr, Mario Pupillo, Chelsea Seeger, Judy Tretter, Monyee Wright • Goal 5, MO4: All staff members will engage in professional learning and collaboration that positively impacts Parkway’s diverse student population. • DIA Goal: All Parkway employees will show growth in the areas of “Sensitivity to Culture” and “Relationships” as measured by the Parkway Evaluation Plan.

Special Education Action TeamProfessional LearningLeaders: Liz Morrison, Beth Nesbit • This work team will identify the professional learning needs of all general and specials educators in Parkway related to teaching students with disabilities, participation in IEPs, instructional strategies, accommodations, and abilities awareness. • This team will propose a collaborative multi-year professional learning plan which is integrated with the PLC initiative, other Parkway professional learning structures, and the professional development plan and activities of the SSD.

Role of PLAT • Review the Professional Learning Needs Survey - for both Gen Educators and Special Educators (October PLAT) • Distribute Survey to Staff (October – November) • Review Survey Data and Provide Input (Invite a Special Educator from your school to join us at PLAT for discussion (November PLAT)) to Special Education Action regarding the three year development plan

Courses for Credit • General • 6 Hours of Course Work .5 Credit • 12 Hours of Course Work 1 Credit • Salary Credit • Approved by PLAT (Exception – Offered by Coordinator) • College Level Course • Reading • Additional Work Outside of the “Seat” Time • Leader earns $300 for 6 Hours or $600 for 12 Hours OR 1 credit for 6 hours/ 2 credits for 12 Hours • 6 Salary Credits for Each Channel Change (Can NOT use to move from BA+15 to MA) • $50 in Resources MAX per participant • Open Enrollment • Need 12 participants for the class to “GO”

In-Service Credit Building In-Service Credit Three-in-three requirement Open to “district” Approved by the Coordinator of Professional Learning or Curriculum Coordinator Leader $300 for 6 Hour Class or $600 for 12 Hour Class $35 in Resources MAX for participants Work is predominately completed in class Need 12 Participants for Class to “Go” Three-in-three requirement Usually development for teachers at the school hosting the development Approved by Building Principal Work is predominately completed in class Leader 1 in-service credit for a 6 hours class and 2 in-service credits for a 12 hour class District In-Service Credit

Course Proposals and Approvals • Salary Credit and District In-Service Credit • Window for course proposals is open in PEERS (September 20th – October 9th) • Salary Credit – College Level Course • A team of three members is sent a course • Team evaluates the course • Courses with highest marks will be approved based on available budget • Leaders of approved courses will be notified by Friday, October 12th • District In-Service Credit – Approved by Coordinator of Professional Learning (List sent to PLAT for “consensus” approval)

  14. HQPD Survey • Sent to all PLAT Representatives • Review with your building principal • Based on the survey results – questions to consider at your building (bring questions to the October meeting)

  15. Professional Learning Communities at Work • Around the Room and Back Again • Share your “best thing” with three other people and listen to their “best thing” • After sharing with three people return to seat • Survey Results • Review the summary • On a note card jot down • One fact from the data • One inference you can make from the data • One question raised by the data • One thought “what else do we need to know?”

  16. Table “Whip Around” • Each person shares his/her response to one question • Follow the same process with each response • Table Summary of the Work of September 5th (Group Share)
