Learning Intentions • By the end of this unit you will be able to recognise a variety of musical styles from around the world • You will have some understanding of the cultural influences of the music you learn about • You will be able to apply this knowledge to a listening paper and be able to discuss the various cultural aspects of each area
Revision • Firstly you need to make sure you have a sound understanding of the terminology from National 3 & 4 • In your groups discuss the meanings of the words on the next slide. These are all words that you have covered at National 3 & 4

Indian Music • Indian music is very diverse with traditional music being just as popular as Bollywood • For National 5 you need to be able to recognise the music of India and the two instruments that go with it; the sitar and the tabla • Listen to this example of an Indian piece of music with both the sitar and the tabla playing
Sitar • The sitar is a large stringed instrument which is related to the guitar • It is easy to remember as sitar rhymes with guitar!
