Marking text is an effective strategy that enhances comprehension and interaction with reading material. It encourages readers to connect personally with the content, fostering a deeper understanding. You can mark your text by making personal connections (PC), jotting down questions about the content, and underlining unfamiliar words. If you own the book, feel free to use a pencil or highlighter. For borrowed books, use provided tools to ensure you respect others' property. Embrace this technique to enrich your reading experience!

Comprehension Strategy: Marking Text
What is “Marking Text?” • A strategy to help you understand what you’re reading. • A way to interact with what you’re reading. • An opportunity for you to connect to what you’re reading.
Things you might ‘mark’ as you read: 1. PC= personal connection to what you’re reading. 2. ?= a question you might have for the author or characters you are reading about. 3. Underline= underlining words you don’t know the meaning of.
How do I mark them? If the book belongs to you, you can use whatever you want! I recommend using a pencil or a highlighter.
But Miss Neff! This book isn’t mine! That’s why I have these things for you to use: Disclaimer: Do NOT write in a book that does not belong to you.
