  4. Carbohydrates • Carbohydrates, or “carbs” are made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. • Carbs give us ENERGY • Two types: • Simple – sugars: fructose, sucrose, etc. • Complex – starches: pasta, rice, whole grains

  5. Fats • Fats provide energy storage for our bodies. • Three types: • Unsaturated: oils, liquid at room temp. • Saturated: solid at room temp. • Trans Fats: Created when hydrogen is added to vegetable oils, used for freshness.

  6. Protein • Proteins build and repair your body, as well as regulating processes in your body • Proteins are made up of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and NITROGEN • Amino Acids are the building blocks of protein

  7. Vitamins, Minerals, Water • Vitamins help to control some body functions • Minerals are essential elements like calcium, potassium, sodium, iron, and others. • Water – Your body is 60-70% water, chemical reactions take place in water.
