  2. A Media literacy approach in an educational broadcast context

  3. What is UR? The Swedish Educational Broadcasting Company (UR) is one of the three independent public broadcasting companies in Sweden The largest educational media organisation in Sweden TV and Radio programs, website, written material etc. Broadcasting on both TV channels (SVT1 and SVT2) and four Radio channels (SR)

The UR charter UR’s current charter is formulated by the Swedish Parliament and Swedish Government and determines broadcasting licenses and budget regulations Pre-schools, primary and secondary schools, universities and adult education To strengthen, broaden and supplement Focus on purely educational programs Serve functionally impaired, linguistic and ethnic minorities

Challenges for UR-the new media landscape • From push to pull - the users decide • Producing and sharing yourself - from consumer to “prosumer” • Range of video content increases - Public Service Broadcast is far from first choice for young people • Increase of the supply of digital learning resources • UR has to respond to all this. Be useful for children, youth, parents, teachers.

Invisible Wounds -a special focus on children at risk • Unique series especially created both about and for children at risk • The series seeks to convey the importance of daring to speak up • Address children directly • Treat subjects such as physical- and sexual abuse and living with mentally ill parent • 3 programmes for six to nine years old, 3 programmes for nine to twelve years old

Media Educationalists • Seven media educationalists, six of which are based at our district offices in different parts of the country • Working to inspire people to teach and learn by using media. • Aided by networks, seminars, discussions and workshops, they contribute to an increased use and a better understanding of UR´s programmes and material.

  16. Educational Forum • Educational Forum, located at our head office in Stockholm, is open for discussions and meetings about teaching and educational media. • There is also a workshop, where pupils can try their hand at sound, vision and animation.

  18. The Project Rum för Berättande? (Room for personal storytelling) • The idea behind the project “Rum för Berättande” is to use the method “digital storytelling” to research, develop and increase the possibilities to express and share your stories with others. We also want to make the personal storytelling useful in different pedagogical environments. • Digital storytelling is a method where many different organisations can cooperate. Ex Swedish for immigrants and The Swedish Disability Federation
