  1. EXTREME GO-KARTING CLASS 5

  2. OUR PLAN • Class 5 planned a day out to Xtremego-karting in Falkirk. • Before doing so, they wrote a letter to our Head of Education and asked if he would fund their trip. • Our Head asked the pupils to put this in writing to him and that he would make a decision. • Each boy wrote a letter in their English class to, and after reading their letters, the Head agreed to the boys going on their trip.

  3. Booking the trip on-line • Class 5 planned their day by sitting down together and gathering the information they needed for a successful trip. • Corey knew how to get to the venue as he had been a member before, so his directions came in handy. • Liam was keen to phone the company to find out how much it would cost. • Garry took notes of how many boys and staff were attending. • Jordan and Jamie helped work out the cost so we could ask our Head for the funds.

  4. Trip is booked • Once Class 5 had worked out the cost, Liam found out it was cheaper to book online. • It was going to cost us £7, all-inclusive. The class worked out that there would be 5 boys and 3 adults attending and that the adults were there just to supervise. • 2 school cars were booked out for the day, everyone had lunch and then we headed off. • It took us about 45 minutes max. It would have been quicker if we had listened to Corey's directions. • Each boy was told in advance that they had 2x7 minutes on the track. This didn’t seem much but it was possible to add extra laps if we had time at the end. • The extra laps would have been slightly less than the normal cost of a lap. • On arrival each boy had to sign themselves in on the computers then move to another room were they would be shown a film as part of their induction.

  5. Our first lap The boys had now been inducted and were provided with blue overalls, gloves, a helmet and a balaclava for protection. As they waited their turn you could see the excitement in their faces as the other drivers were just about to finish. This was it, all their hard work and preparation was going to be worth it. They lined up in order, Corey first, followed by Garry, then Jamie, then the other. The Instructor reminded them of the rules and regulations. He then asked them a few questions about the DVD they had watched to make sure they had been listening.

  6. Final Lap • After the break it was time for their last lap. All boys were keen to go round again and Jamie was advised to slow down at the turnings. • This time round all boys seemed more confident in their driving skills, even Jamie who had taken the instructors advice and slowed down. • Garry had good control, and Corey was full of confidence; this showed in his performance. Liam and Jordan were faster than their first lap and Jamie slowed down when he needed to. • Only time would tell who would be first on the leader board.

  7. champion • And the winner is ? • Both laps were completed without any major injuries. • The boys came off the track and got themselves organised. • The instructor appeared with the list of their times for both laps. • Each boy read in anticipation to discover that Corey had been the fastest in both laps. • Well done to Corey.
