  2. What counts as ‘art’ ?

  3. Artist, philosophers, anthropologist, psychologist and programmers all use the notion of art in their respective field, and give it operational definitions that are not very similar to each other.

  4. The main recent sense of the word ‘art’ is roughly abbreviation forcreative art or ‘fine art’ Here we mean that skill is being used to express the artist creativity, or to engage the audience’s aesthetic sensibilities, or to draw the audience towards consideration of the ‘finer’ things.

  6. Often, if the skill is being used in a lowbrow or practical way, people will consider it a ‘craft’ instead of art, yet many thinkers have defended practical and lowbrow forms as being as much art as the more lofty forms.
